My love, how did I come to lose you?
You, the one to whom
I cleaved my heart, my soul
for all time.
Just a trace of you remains:
a hint of your scent in the clothes
you left behind.
Come back my love, so I can hold you again.
Written in response to Sadje’s What Do You See #16 photo prompt.

If she is of the sniffing variety, it is a good thing he lost his trainers before he went.. Couldn’t help myself. Beautiful sentiment really Chris….

Thank you 🙂 A friend of mine just lost her partner recently and I wrote it with her in mind.

Reminds me of when you lose someone and you don’t want to wash their pillow case because it feels like you’ll wash the memory of them out with it. Beautiful x

It’s good. Makes me want to get the answers to where they went.

I left it ambiguous. Did the loved one just leave, or did they depart this world?

Too soon the scent and images fade, especially after a death.
I saw an ad for the movie Our Town… And I guess that’s what came to mind.

I can relate to this one, Chris! Every now and then I get one of Mark’s hats and put it over my face to see if I can get just a tiny bit of that scent…and it has been almost four years since he passed away.

A friend of mine would often wear one of her late husband’s jerseys for the same reason. I can see the comfort there.

Good question; it’s very clever isn’t it? The photo was the prompt for these piece and is credited as follows: ‘Reflections’ by Yunus Emre Uzun. I’m guessing the photographer might not share their secrets!

Thank you so much, Sophia 🙂 This was written just after I heard that a friend of mine had lost her partner, so it really did come from the heart.
